# CSV Import: Completed Expected-Value Map

All rows below are invented teaching inputs for a fictional article/resource list. They are not customer records, keyword results or a native product export. The companion CSV is a genuine local file created from these exact strings.

## File Choices

- Companion file: csv-import-teaching-example.csv
- Character encoding: UTF-8, without a byte-order mark (BOM).
- Delimiter: comma.
- Record separator: CRLF.
- Declared import type: Text for every column.
- Expected data records: three, plus the header.
- Excel UI import/workbook check: not performed.

## Every Expected Field

Compare the full characters, including zeros, punctuation and accents. Backticks below only mark literal text; they are not part of the CSV values.

| Record | Column | Exact expected value | Declared type |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 1 | `teaching_example` | `TEACHING_ONLY` | Text |
| 1 | `article_id` | `00037` | Text |
| 1 | `resource_id` | `1234567890123456789` | Text |
| 1 | `date_like_code` | `03-04` | Text |
| 1 | `article_title` | `Café shelf labels` | Text |
| 1 | `notes` | `Title includes café; code is text.` | Text |
| 2 | `teaching_example` | `TEACHING_ONLY` | Text |
| 2 | `article_id` | `00038` | Text |
| 2 | `resource_id` | `9876543210987654321` | Text |
| 2 | `date_like_code` | `001-02` | Text |
| 2 | `article_title` | `Labels, boxes and lids` | Text |
| 2 | `notes` | `Keep "spare" on the label.` | Text |
| 3 | `teaching_example` | `TEACHING_ONLY` | Text |
| 3 | `article_id` | `00039` | Text |
| 3 | `resource_id` | `1111222233334444555` | Text |
| 3 | `date_like_code` | `2026-10` | Text |
| 3 | `article_title` | `Two-step storage plan` | Text |
| 3 | `notes` | `Monthly-looking code, not a reporting date.` | Text |

The file header contains these columns in this order: `teaching_example`, `article_id`, `resource_id`, `date_like_code`, `article_title`, `notes`.

## Completed Decisions

- The three article identifiers are identifiers. Preserve their zeros rather than treat them as numbers.
- Each resource identifier is a literal string. Do not round or calculate with it.
- The date-like codes identify files in this invented process. They are not dates.
- The title Café shelf labels retains its accent. A wrong character-set choice needs correction before using the row.
- Labels, boxes and lids is one title field; its comma is not a column break.
- The spare-label sentence retains both quotation marks. CSV escaping is file syntax, not extra quotation marks in the parsed text.

## Use and Reuse

1. Keep the downloaded source separately. Start a Text/CSV import, select UTF-8 and comma, and disable automatic type detection so columns start as Text.
2. Choose Transform Data and compare every field above before loading. After loading, compare them again in the sheet.
3. If a value changed, return to the untouched CSV and repeat the import with explicit types. Do not infer the lost original from a tidier display.
4. For your own file, replace this map with its real header, complete expected values and declared meanings. A numerical-looking identifier can still be text.
5. Record actual import choices and the result. Only convert a separate working field to a number/date when its meaning calls for that conversion.

## Source and Check Limits

The article links Microsoft Excel/Power Query documentation and informational RFC 4180, read on October 8, 2026. Menu capabilities vary by host/version. The delivered CSV was checked with a local CSV parser against every supplied header and field, including an exact byte roundtrip; that is not an observed Excel import or guarantee for every application.
